WITHIN
EMILY JANET BROWN
There is a fire deep within us.
Deep in the darkest, loneliest
pit, a flame flickers.
Some days, a mere candle.
One short breath away, one tiny
rejection, from being
blown out.
Other days, a raging wildfire.
Untameable, unstoppable –
burning, blazing, lighting
us up from inside.
Forest fire eyes –
torchlight to her sorrow,
her love, her joy.
Pulsating through her blood,
all the way to her fingertips.
Everything she touches,
flickers of light ignite.
